A Mezzanine Floor is an intermediate floor situated between the main floors of a building. Mezzanine floors are semi-permanent flooring systems, typically free standing and in most cases can be dismantled and relocated.
A Mezzanine Floor can be designed for a range of uses including: additional office space, increasing production area or expanding storage space. The loading of a mezzanine floor can range from 3.5Kn/m2 office loading to 4.8Kn/m2 Light storage, right up to 9.6Kn/m2 for Heavy storage
Yes, mezzanine floors do require Building Regulation approval. However Wessex Interiors can obtain Building Regulations approval on your behalf through our approved inspector scheme saving you time and money
If the size of your new floor exceeds 400m2 or exceeds 50% of the space that it is installed in, it will require fire protection.
Floors that have in excess of 3 people working on it at any one time or floors used for purposes other than storage will also require fire protection.
Fire rating a mezzanine floor consists of a 1 hour suspended ceiling, 1 hour fascia protection to any exposed edges of the floor and 1 hour column casings.
